The Innovation and NPD Manager  is responsible for: Managing the activities of procurement for all production components for Domaine Chandon and Newton Vineyard. Assists in the development of new packaging and supplier qualification. Ensures that new developments are correctly documented and delivered on-time, in a cost efficient way to meet company quality standards. Ensures that all parties involved in new processes are kept informed.  Manage third parties when it comes to labeling/bottling, planning and dry goods procurement. Participates in cost reduction plans by optimizing component technical specifications, product and process simplification, rationalization, and standardization. Participates in the global efforts of both wineries to become wine industry leaders as it relates to design, production, quality and cost control. Maintain strong relationships internal stakeholders: Production Planning, Data Management, Quality, Finance, Production, Logistics and Maintenance.


New Product Development (75%)

  • Ensure that all new projects follow the development procedure flow chart.
  • Develop new packaging projects and work closely with Marketing, Designers, Finance, Operations (Production/Planning/Maintenance/Quality) and Winemaking to deliver projects on-time and within budget.
  • Assist with leading new projects and assign tasks during project meetings, write minutes, and follow-up action plans and timelines.
  • Define and edit technical specifications of new dry goods with Quality Manager.
  • Assist Quality in the completion of the Finished Product Sheet (BOM structure)
  • Responsible for providing accurate packaging and costing information to Data Management to update SAP and make sure all the departments concerned (Master Data, Production Planner, Quality) are aware of any packaging change (BOM and FPS updated correctly)
  • Manage the process for label approvals for domestic TTB and export markets with proper information gathering and approvals from internal stakeholders (Winemaking, PR, Export, internal design consultant, and the Purchasing Manager).
  • Work with Production, Maintenance and Quality to ensure all dry goods have a high level of quality performance on the line, and are fit for purpose through appropriate trials
  • Work with the vendors to ensure high quality and timeliness of delivery of dry goods.
  • Set-up and continually update as necessary, procedures related to new developments including testing protocols for materials (quantities and test requirements by material, timelines, and communication regarding trials and outcomes of testing) with agreed upon input from internal stakeholders.
  • Understand development costs (one-time costs and Capex investments) and liaise with Purchasing Manager on this topic.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement towards packaging optimization and cost savings.
  • Manage the third party relationships and communication for labeling/bottling, planning and dry goods procurement.
  • Participate in the negotiation process for new projects.
  • Develop and maintain supplier relationships that support company goals of improved quality, innovation, excellent delivery and reduced cost.
  • Display working knowledge of technical specifications of dry goods to drive performance, and work to reduce costs - Quality
  • Ensure supplier has received necessary material specs for all new items prior to placing purchase order. 
  • Work with Purchasing Manager and Quality Manager to source new suppliers
  • Participate in supplier evaluation process, including performing and reporting supplier audits with Quality Manager.
  • Gather information and assist in preparing tender to offer, following Purchasing Manager instructions
  • Maximize inventory turns by calculating trigger points and order/batch quantities for purchased products in conjunction with Production Planner and Master Data position.
  • Prepare material requirements schedules in a timely manner for suppliers to help meet delivery goals.
  • Contribute directly in cost savings, cost avoidance, inventory management and cash flow benefits
  • Create and maintain all SOP and training materials for Quality & Purchasing regarding new product development
  • Participate in the Operations team efforts to improve Dry Goods and Finished products quality, as well as working with the internal stakeholders and suppliers to drive dry goods/production line efficiency.
  • For new items, coordinate with Quality Manager for supply returns with Logistics and suppliers to ensure proper processing of SAP adjustments and credits due to quality issues
  • Lead the new product qualification process according to our procedures in coordination with the Quality team.
  • Maintain a close and open communication with the Brand/Marketing team and design agencies to ensure a perfect understanding of the technical constraint and opportunities in order to improve and optimize the future design of the products.


Innovation (25%)

  • Drive the Innovation process according to company goals, working in collaboration with all internal stakeholders involved in innovation projects
  • Lead or is a key contributor of Innovation Projects in close collaboration with internal stakeholders,
  • Look for new materials, manufacturing process, technology, market trends. Communicate and assess future implementation as a competitive advantage for our brands.


Employee Management (100%)

  • Responsible for the Management of employee(s). Acting as a leader and escalating issues through the proper communication channels.
  • In tandem with HR, interview and hire new employees.
  • Responsible for overseeing the training of employee(s),

Maintain and submit accurate payroll records and timecards (if applicable) for your personnel.



Education : Bachelor degree  Languages : Fluency in English required


Professional experience & know how :

  • 3-5 years of experience as packaging developer in food, beverage or cosmetic industry a plus.
  • Wine industry experience preferred.


Technical & management skills:

  • Good knowledge of dry goods material and manufacturing process (Dry goods = glass, carton, label, wire good, capsule, screw cap, partition, gift boxes, POS…)
  • Basic experience in purchasing and negotiation as well as in quality.
  • Strong project management skills, communication, ability to manage the decision making process.
  • Continuous improvement skills
  • Very good computer skills (Excel, Word, Power Point, internet, Lotus Notes, SAP)
  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a harmonious manner with co-workers and management.
